Take a trip back to the Jurassic seas with this gorgeous detailed display piece of Holzmaden Shale with Pyritized Ammonites from Germany. This plate features the more common Dactylioceras species and the more rare Harpoceras Ammonite.
Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures which thrived during the Jurassic Period approximately 180 million years ago. This plate has many Ammonites of the species Dactylioceras. The Ammonites have naturally mineralized with a beautiful pyrite coating giving it a rich brass color which contrasts nicely against the dark shale background. The matrix contains many other smaller Ammonite fossils surrounding the main fossil.
