Stone Coasters - Blue Banded Agate (set of 4)
- Description
These blue banded agate coasters come from southern Brazil. Agate is a variety of silica with cryptocrystalline (very tiny) quartz crystals. These decorative coasters have been soaked in a blue dye solution which allows the agate to absorb the colorations. The agates formed within air pockets of hardened lava. Silica rich fluids flowed through these air pockets and began to cool and harden. Layer upon layer of silica built up within the pocket, creating beautiful bands of the mineral Agate. Some of the coasters contain quartz crystal geode pockets. The top and bottom of the rock has been cut and polished to a high gloss finish, while the edges of the stone have been left in their raw state.
