Petrified Wood Slab

This dark and dreamy Petrified Wood slab comes from Indonesia. Both front and back showcase the rock's deep contrast between black and earth tones, making it perfect to display horizontally or vertically.

The top and bottom have been cut and lightly polished, while the sides are left in their natural state, allowing you to feel the original tree bark undulations. The process of petrification occurs when a tree falls and is quickly buried under sediment like volcanic ash or river sediments, creating an anaerobic environment that stops the decay process. Minerals carried by water slowly replace the tree's organic material and crystallize over hundreds and thousands of years, effectively hardening into stone. This particular petrified wood slice is estimated to be around 20 million years old.
