Ammonite Fossil Pair

A perfect mix of two geologic favorites, crystals and fossils! This large split Ammonite pair comes from Madagascar. Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures. This Ammonite, a Cleoniceras, was thriving during the Cretaceous Period approximately 110 million years ago. The Ammonite shells are cut or split in half and polished to display the beautiful mineralization which has occurred within their growth chambers.

Calcite began to infill the once hollow growth chambers, with some chambers completely filled with Calcite, while others still exhibit individual Calcite crystal pockets. The Calcite crystals will even fluoresce under exposure to a UV flashlight!

On the exterior of the shell, dendritic suture markings can be seen in some areas along with beautiful natural rainbow iridescence. This fossil looks so lovely from different angles and orientations, there is always a new display possibility to explore!

Each Side of Pair Approx. 3.9" H x .5" Deep x 3.5" W

Need a display stand?

If you would like a stand to display this specimen vertically or horizontally with a slight tilt forward, we recommend two stands (one for each side of the pair) Stand B1
