Pyritized Dactylioceras Ammonite Fossil Plate

A beautiful fossil Ammonite plate from the Holzmaden Shale in Germany. It features a large Dactylioceras sp. Ammonite in the center of the stone. The shale matrix has been meticulously removed to expose the Ammonite fossil hiding underneath which has been naturally replaced by the mineral Pyrite. The bright brass coloration and detailed texture of the Ammonite fossil creates a lovely contrast against the dark shale rock matrix.
Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures which thrived during the Jurassic Period approximately 180 million years ago. This piece has a pre-drilled hanging fixture on the back of the specimen for option wall-hanging.
