Pyritized Dactylioceras Ammonite Fossil Plate

An Ammonite-packed fossil plate from the Holzmaden Shale in Germany. It features a plethora of Dactylioceras sp. Ammonite fossils throughout the stone. The shale matrix has been meticulously removed to expose the Ammonite fossils hiding underneath which have been naturally replaced by the mineral Pyrite. The bright brass coloration and detailed texture of the Ammonite fossils creates a lovely contrast against the dark shale rock matrix. 

Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures which thrived during the Jurassic Period approximately 180 million years ago. This piece has a pre-drilled hanging fixture on the back of the specimen for option wall-hanging.
